The challenge
Improve and present BAFOKA's WhatsApp mini-marketplace, built to empower rural women farmers in Cameroon. Nine teams of three to five people competed over 48 hours.
What we built
BAFOKA-Market, a WhatsApp mini-marketplace where farmers and buyers meet without leaving the app they already use:
- search by keyword, location or business;
- secure transactions through blockchain, for transparency and trust;
- a community delivery network that lowers logistics costs and creates local jobs.
Why it won
The jury pointed to its relevance to real community needs, its technical robustness — with a working API integration — and how easily it could scale beyond WhatsApp.
Thanks
To BAFOKA, the mentors and the jury, and to the partners GIZ and GFA Group who made the event possible.
